Title: Glass Trigonal Closeup
Artist: *AJGlass
Image: Created by using an Epson Perfection 1200U scanner and PhotoShop.
Medium: Glass
Type: Soft Glass, 104 Coefficient of Expansion (Moretti/Effetre, Vetrofond, Lausha, CiM)
Description: This is a close-up look at a hand-made glass bead.

Details: Dark red and dark ivory glass rods were melted with a torch, swirled together onto a mud-coated mandrel, and then pressed onto a graphite marver to create a trigonal (three-sided) bead. The view you see in this image is only one side of that bead - and is in reality, only one and a half inches in width.

Discussion: I set my flatbed scanner to a ridiculously high resolution in order to capture this image of the delicate swirls in one of my hand-made glass beads. Scanning reflective objects using my computer scanner - which has a tiny depth of focus - is always a crap shoot. This image actually came out better than I thought it would. To me it looks like some sort of glassy tsunami, or the swirls on the planet Jupiter. Either way, I find it really interesting.
