Title: Striking Drip Artist: AJGlass Image created by: AJGlass using an Epson Perfection 1200U scanner and PhotoShop. Medium: Glass Type: Soft Glass, 104 Coefficient of Expansion (Moretti/Effetre, Vetrofond, Lausha) Description: Glass Bead Details: The dime provided is for scale of the larger image. Inset image is of the reverse side. White and striking red glass were used to create this bead which has been annealed in a kiln. This bead took 30 minutes to make and 18 hours to anneal. It has been cleaned to remove the bead release/separator. No image color correction was necessary. Discussion: It was difficult for me to create this bead for four reasons: 1. This bead is large and large beads are prone to thermal shock (i.e. cracking). 2. White soft glass when molten has the consistency of water and is thus difficult for me to work with. 3. Striking red glass can be difficult for me to strike (change from light yellow to dark red) in the flame. 4. The unique shape and symmetry of this bead are both hard for me to produce at this size. Further comment: I really like how this bead looks. Its color banding reminds me of agate while keeping the flow-like, orange glow of molten glass. Legal: Copyright © Aaron J. Greenblatt. Daily DeviationGiven 2007-12-13Striking Drip by *AJGlass The striking colors and morphing swirls in this handmade glass bead makes me think of candy, others see speedos, sheep's head and axe. What do you see? (Suggested by `Tepara and Featured by `Myana) CommentsI realy love this bead, the stripes of color are so deliciously organic. kudos.
