Title: Glass Piggy Artist: AJGlass Image created by: AJGlass using an Epson Perfection 1200U scanner and PhotoShop. Medium: Glass Type: Soft Glass, 104 Coefficient of Expansion (Moretti/Effetre, Vetrofond, Lausha) Description: Glass Bead Details: The dime provided is for scale of the smaller image. The smaller image is the side view of the same bead. Opaque bubblegum pink and opaque black glasses were used to create this bead which has been annealed in a kiln. This piece took 25 minutes to make and 18 hours to anneal. No image color correction was necessary. Discussion: It was fun figuring out how to make this piece and I had to give it a lot of thought before attempting to form it in the flame. This is one of my first glass pigs and thus, was difficult for me to create. I am sure that over time making pigs will become easier as I create more of them. Further comment: The most difficult parts to create were the pig’s eyes since I have very little experience using stringers, which are very thin rods of glass. Also, the bubblegum pink glass can be hard to work with. Like white glass, bubblegum pink can have a watery consistency in the flame and can stay soft for a long period of time once removed from the flame. I really like how this bead turned out and I absolutely adore the pig’s expression. This piggy has already been adopted into a private collection. Legal: Copyright © 2006 Aaron J. Greenblatt.
